There will be an open house at the Oakes-Beitman Library on Tuesday, October 26 from 12 to 8pm to celebrate and show off their new look! Mary Breu, author of Last Letters from Attu : The True Story of Etta Jones, Alaska Pioneer and Japanese POW, will visit the Troy-Miami County Public Library on Wednesday, November 10 at 7pm. The library staff book discussion group has been reading her book and really enjoying it. It is the story of Etta Jones and her life in remote Alaska. The island on which she lived, Attu, is the last island in the Aleutian Islands. It was invaded by the Japanese during WWII and all the people either killed or taken to Japan as prisoners of war.
