Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Adventure awaits at all of our TMCPL locations this summer for our youngest readers, teens, and the young at heart! 

Registration is EASY!

  • Pre-register online beginning May 13 using Beanstack only
  • Register at your favorite TMCPL branch starting June 3.
  • Log your reading and activities using the attached log or online using the Beanstack Tracker app on your favorite device.

Participation is Fun:

Complete the Summer Reading Challenge (Information Below) and attend some of our amazing summer programs!

Meet Penguins, enjoy a Magic Show, explore STEAM labs, and create cool Crafts, listen to Stories, try Yoga, and chat at Book Clubs. You won’t want to miss out on a summer of discovery at the Troy-Miami County Public Library, Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library in Pleasant Hill, the Maker Lab at Hobart Government Center, and the Troy Bookmobile!

Complete the Reading Challenge this Summer:

Grab a reading log at your favorite library or print one using the link below. (available beginning June 3) Color or (X) a panel on the hot air balloon log for every activity you complete from the list below. You may repeat activities as many times as you choose. Complete 30 panels to enter to win an Adventure Prize! One entry per reader. All of these activities can also be tracked using Beanstack. 

• Read for 20 Minutes a Day

• Have a Reading Picnic

• Go camping and read in a tent. (even in your backyard)

• Read a book about an adventure

• Read to your pet or stuffie!

• Write a letter to someone you know and mail it from the post office

• Go on a hiking adventure at a park

• Read a book in a park

• Attend a program at any library branch

• Board the bookmobile at any neighborhood stop.

• Visit the book bike at Cherry Street Local Market

• Read to a family member using a video call.

• Read to a sibling

• Visit the Local History Library and research an ancestor

• Sing a story to your favorite adult

• Visit the Friendly Forest and play with the turtle, bear, frog, or on the log!

• Check out a cookbook and make a recipe.

• Visit a playground and read on a slide or swing

• Read a chapter book or a graphic novel

• Listen to a story or audiobook

 

You did it, you completed the reading challenge! Now what?

July 24-August 3 • Visit TMCPL or a branch to claim your completion prize and be entered in a drawing for an ADVENTURE EXPERIENCE GRAND PRIZE! If you complete the reading challenge using Beanstack just show us your badge to claim a completion prize that week.

What is Beanstack

Beanstack is an online tool that TMCPL and many other libraries use to track reading challenges. When you create a Beanstack account for you or your family, you stay connected to future seasonal or special library reading programs. You can download the Beanstack App to your favorite device or visit the website listed below. When summer reading ends, keep reading! You can continue logging tracking. 

If you are a parent/caregiver registering your family follow the step-by-step instructions below:

  1. Go to https://tmcpl.beanstack.org/ and select Register an Individual or Family.
  2. Click on No when asked if you have previously used Beanstack with Troy-Miami County Public Library.
  3. Select I am an adult registering a child when asked who you would like to register.
  4. Complete all the required fields. Keep track of your email and password.
  5. Depending on the age, you and your children will be automatically pre-registered or registered for any reading challenges available for preschool, school-age, teens, or adults.
  6. Add more children, if needed.
  7. You will be asked if you would like to register. If you say Yes complete the required fields.
  8. You will be asked if you wish to register other adults. If you say Yes, complete the required fields.
  9. Once you are registered, you will be taken to a Reader Dashboard page. This is where you will track your reading and participation in current reading challenges.
